Our client, a leading provider of equipment sales, service, and support solutions throughout Atlantic Canada, is seeking a Field Service Technician – Heavy Equipment to join their growing service team in Truro, NS.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician who enjoys troubleshooting, working with advanced machinery, and providing hands-on solutions for customers in the field. As an Equipment Technician, you will play a key role in keeping critical equipment operating safely and efficiently for customers who rely on their machines every day.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Service Technician will travel throughout the assigned territory providing professional service, technical expertise, and repair support to customers.

You will diagnose equipment issues, perform repairs and maintenance, and provide solutions that help customers minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.

This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys working independently, solving complex problems, and experiencing something different every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic issues on equipment.
  • Perform field repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment servicing at customer locations.
  • Utilize manufacturer diagnostic software, electronic testing equipment, and specialized tools to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and control systems.
  • Complete equipment inspections and identify recommended repairs or maintenance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding equipment concerns, repair recommendations, and service updates.
  • Complete service documentation, work orders, and reports accurately.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while representing the company in the field.

Equipment Experience

Technicians will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of heavy equipment, including:

  • Forestry harvesters and processing equipment
  • Material handlers
  • Specialized forestry attachments
  • Heavy industrial equipment
  • Various makes and models used within the forestry industry

The variety of equipment provides technicians with the opportunity to expand their skills, gain exposure to multiple technologies, and continue developing as a well-rounded service professional.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentices
  • Millwrights / Industrial Mechanics
  • Truck & Transport Technicians

  • Experienced mechanics with transferable hydraulic, electrical, diesel, or mechanical diagnostic skills

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and hands-on experience will also be considered.

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use computers and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to support customer needs.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.
