Nation-Wide Demand for Skilled Trade Workers on the Rise for the Next Decade

The latest labour market forecast from BuildForce Canada states that over 250,000 construction workers are expected to retire this decade. This is a whopping 21% of the existing workforce! With the high numbers of retirees as well as growing need as infrastructure across Canada grows, the construction and labour fields are in demand of dedicated employees.

Bill Ferreira, executive director of BuildForce Canada stated “Simply put, the industry must remain focused on recruitment, training, and mentoring efforts to prevent a potential skills and capacity gap over the next 10 years.”
This trend applies all across Canada. Construction workers in non-residential sectors especially will be in need as many Canadian cities begin focusing efforts on the construction of major public transportation and other infrastructure projects. In addition to these skills, plumbers and refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics as well as boilermakers, steamfitters, pipefitters and sprinkler system installers are expected to be in high demand for the next decade.
